Summary:
Over the very last few years, night events have been included in the schedule of museum events, not only aiming to attract new visitors, but also integrating them into the broader leisure industry framework. The present thesis is an attempt to investigate the importance of the implementation of those kinds of events and their impact on the general public. This thesis is divided into two main parts; the first addresses the theory of the topic, while the second involves the practical research undertaken. On a theoretical level, the focus is on the role of museums with regards to their educational role, programmes and their audiences. This is precisely where the main subject matter of this paper derives: the theoretical framework of night museum activities along with concrete examples of these initiatives. Additionally, the methodology used for the research included a combination of data collection techniques: observation and quantitative research conducted through questionnaires on the events of the Industrial Gas Museum- Sleepover: “A Green Night at the Museum”, Sleepover: “Planet Earth calls for Superheroes” and “Teddy’s Night”. Finally, in order to probe the research topic as effectively as possible, qualitive data has also been collated through interviews conducted with members of the various event organization groups.
