Summary:
The aim of this project was to investigate the contribution of Corporate Governance codes in establishing an efficient Corporate Governance scheme. In relevance with this aim, the dissertation had the following objectives: 1) to examine the role of Corporate Governance codes in the major business scandals of the global economy, and 2) to investigate shortcomings in the implementation of Corporate Governance codes in the international business practice. The analysis was based exclusively in the usage of secondary data. In particular, 5 cases of business scandals were analyzed, giving emphasis in corporate governance issues. The scandals were chosen from the global corporate scene and included: a) the case of Enron in USA, b) the Volkswagen scandal in Germany, c) the Bank of Crete in Greece, d) the case of Wirecard in Germany and e) the case of Toshiba in Japan.
