Summary:
The cataclysmic discoveries and their inconceivable applications in the field of
biotechnology and genetic engineering promise an auspicious future, able to bring
quality both in aspects of active human activity, freeing it from the relentless
biological limitations, and to bring the end to a wide range of pathological medical
problems. These discoveries are also committed to offering the necessary and
efficient solutions that until recently seemed unrealistic, by identifying new
methods, even intervening in the core of the molecular composition of the human
body. This promising prospect of biosciences seems tempting as well as fascinating,
but it does not cease to raise a number of moral dilemmas, which plague man
leaving him oscillating between good - bad, right - wrong, resulting in impassable
paths, which can be disastrous if no limits are set to ensure the protection of his
moral existence.
In the face of the challenges of the various options which are generously
brought up by the pioneering solutions of the successive findings of modern genetic
engineering and biotechnology which should be the criterion of evaluation in order
for the human being to secure his dignity, freedom, autonomy and spirituality? The
fundamental destiny of the rational being is above all to remember that his actions
are validated to the extent that they are characterized as the actions of a moral
person, as he integrates every activity into the general aspect, which he embraces
for both life and death thus seeking the necessary and desirable harmony between
technological progress and moral dimension. In the following pages we will be
explored the possibility of this necessary harmony, in several bioethics issues seeking
a perspective in the light of the Divine, as a safe path to the challenges, which tend
to weaken man to strengthen his narcissism, leaving him adrift in a relentless
metaphysical morass of no eschatological content.
