Summary:
This paper reviews the concept of size, shape and form of the Canidae family. It will analyze the evolution of body mass between species from the three subfamilies, Hesperocyoninae, Borophaginae and Caninae. The rise and demise of body weight of some branches has a direct connection with the biodiversity as well as metabolic variables. Using the variables measured by Van Valkenburgh the weight of some species from each subfamily will be calculated by using measurements of the lower m1 and afterwards, using a software for statistical computing and graphics, a cladogram will be created showing the advancement of body mass through evolutionary time. The results will show that all of the subfamilies at some point in time had species with heavy weight. Furthermore, the predatory behavior of these carnivores has uniquely evolved in combination with the development of body mass.
