Summary:
Purpose of this project is to study gypsum's physicochemical and technical properties, as affected by deposition during different geological periods, in different environments. We'll run laboratory tests with four bulk samples of different origins, two from Crete, one from Cyprus and one from Spain. Specifically we' ll deal with the calculation of the percentage of moisture content, the granulometric analysis with sieves and laser diffraction, the mineralogical characterization with X-ray diffraction (XRD), the calculation of whiteness, the Thermobarimetric - Differential Thermal Analysis (TGA) determination of Initial and Final Setting Time. Afterwards, we' ll study, process and compare the data extracted through the laboratory processing and eventually understand how these parameters affect the behavior of gypsum as raw material.
