Exhibiting sculptures in the museum space.The case of the National Glyptotheque.

The object of this thesis is the analysis of the spatial and exhibition organization of the sculpture
collections within the museum space and the way in which it shapes the visitor's experience. First,
examples of sculpture exhibitions in museums in Greece and abroad are presented, and then, the
Museum that is the case study of the work, the National Glyptotheque, is analyzed in depth.
The permanent sculpture collection of the Museum is analyzed from the point of view of the
curators of the exhibition, through a series of interviews, and a group of visitors who toured the
museum space, through observing their behavior, recording their movement and conducting semistructured interviews, aimed at in-depth understanding of their museum experience. Finally, some
changes are proposed, in a possible re-exhibition of the permanent collection of the National
Glyptotheque.
