Nurses opinions about the moral dillema of euthanasia

Euthanasia is the practice of intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering. Doctors perform it to people with terminal disease and it is consisted of different types. It is an issue that concerns religion, science, legislature and bioethics. It has both advocates and abolitionists.
The purpose of this systematic review is the collection of information about the attitudes of nurses towards euthanasia.
Methodology: The study was based on systematic reviewing focusing on nurse’s attitudes and research that was done in Greek and international databases (SCHOLAR and PUBMED) with the keywords: nurses' opinion, reserch study, literature review, moral dilemmas, euthanasia and some Greek keywords. Factors were analyzed that affect nurse’s opinions, like age, specialties, religion, geography, workplace and education. There were also found needs for education on palliative care and there had been a reference to the emotions that are created. In conclusion, the complexity of the issue has been observed in general but also in the taking of the decision and it has been also observed in the involvement of the ethics.
Conclusion: The review provided usefull information about the attitudes of nurses towards euthanasia. The studies that have been included came to different conclusions. In addition, there weren’t enough Greek studies.
