Museums and Refugees-Actions and Perspectives at the National Historical Museum
Summary:
The recent refugee crisis has created new data and changes in many European countries, as well as in Greece. In addition to providing humanitarian assistance to refugees, society must also take care of their social inclusion. Museums as social and cultural institutions have made a significant contribution to the integration of refugees through their access, participation and representation in culture. The activities of museums for refugees are many and varied both in Europe and in Greece. The National Historical Museum can take the first step towards addressing the refugee group through the Freedom Stories project. Τhis project aims to create a neutral, "third place" in the National Historical Museum in order to bring together Greeks and refugees where through various activities they will develop an intercultural dialogue aimed at sharing experiences, free expression and understanding of the "other".
