Summary:
Terrorism could be considered, in fact, rather to have existed over time and is not so much a phenomenon only of the modern era and these last two centuries. Its case is linked to the use of force, especially against vulnerable, civilian populations, who may be targeted by certain groups, organizations or individuals who have specific ideas due to their affiliation with an institution, a state or some specific political, economic, religious, social, power etc.
Such a thing, in terms of the scope of this concept, it is true, that it can create some problems in terms of our attempt to define exactly what terrorism is. But beyond that, clearly today there are a number of cases of organizations, ideologically fueled by specific worldviews, at the level of politics, society or religion and that commit crimes even against innocent citizens.
After all, events such as the major terrorist attacks in Europe, by extremist Islamic fundamentalist organizations or followers of their theories, have contributed decisively to the creation of various special security and control mechanisms in order to prevent future strikes, such as these. In fact, these mechanisms are focused, as will be seen below, on a number of specific parameters, which relate to the existence of a huge network of digital control (checking websites with fanatical content, checking the profiles of suspects associated with extreme extremist ideas and organizations) but also control along the borders of the European Union in general. Under these mechanisms, there is clearly a set of initiatives in areas such as education to combat extremist ideologies or also the policy of combating various terrorist organizations by freezing the accounts of their members around the world.
