Summary:
The purpose of the present study is the utilization of the possibilities of the
contemporary WebGIS applications to highlight the environmental trails in the Karpenisiotis River Valley (Evrytania). Through the Story Maps web applications in ArcGIS© Online platform (ESRI) is attempted to visualize the interconnection of natural environment, environmental information and local history as one correlative geocultural system. Starting from the common geographical base, the use of modern geospatial technologies with applications that are easy to use and available through a common browser achieves the dissemination of spatial information to citizens with easy navigation on interactive maps and multiple possibilities of exploitation. Story Maps function as a flexible educational instrument that helps to understand the interactions of natural systems with human activities by contributing to the development of environmental awareness of the public giving a broader environmental perception.
