The role of intrauterine infections in implantation failure and recurrent pregnancy loss
Summary:
Chronic endometritis is a pathologic condition caused by an imbalance between endometrial microbiome and immune system of the host which leads to dysfunction of the reproductive system and infertility. Recent data prove that chronic endometritis is related to recurrent pregnancy loss and is very common among infertile women. The appropriate antibiotic therapy seems to improve successful implantation and live birth rate.
This review of the literature aims to analyze the etiology, diagnosis, pathophysiology and therapy of chronic endometritis, as well as its role to recurrent pregnancy loss and implantation failure.
