The role of providing anesthesia during mass disasters
Summary:
In recent years there has been an increase in mass disasters, whether man-made or natural hazards. Greece has faced disasters in the past, mainly floods and earthquakes that are likely to occur in the future.

This thesis emphasises the role of anaesthesia in mass disasters, demonstrates how important all entities are in unexpected events and how it needs to highlight their work. Those who have a role in administering anaesthesia in a mass disaster can participate in all stages, such as the place of the incident, by providing first aid services and airway management, as well as in the organisation of surgeries, by participating in the triage, but also taking care in pain relief.

Through the systematic literature review and studies presented in this thesis, the need for improvement of all entities through continuing educational programs and clear guidelines for crisis management in all health institutions is highlighted, in order to be prepared for a possible disaster.
