Assesment of muscle's maximal strength and endurance during handgrip strength.
Summary:
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the electronic handgrip dynamometer as an apparatus for assessing maximal muscular strength and muscle endurance. The participants were 41 healthy adults, 24 men (age 23±2 years) and 17 women (agr 22±1 years). During the assessments, an electronic handrgrip dynamometer (100D, BIOPAC, California) was used. During the assessment participants performed 3 consecutive trials of 3 seconds for the evaluation of maximal strength and of one maximal trial of 30 seconds for the evaluation of muscle fatigue index. The average maximal strength and fatigue index were 40.56±14.61 N, and 25.52±8.18 % respectively. No significant correlation was found between the two parameters (r2=0.0001). During the endurance trial, the power output values were significantly decreased over time (p<0.05). Maximal strength values align with values from previous studies on healthy populations. The low correlation between maximal strength and muscle endurance, could be attributed to the differences in participants' muscle physiology. In conclusion, the electronic handgrip dynamometer may be used as an lapparatus for the evaluation of human muscle strength. Nevertheless, futher studies are required to support this claim, including generalhealthy recreational athletes, athletes of varies sports and clinical population.
