Α Ηip Ηop Dance Choreography with Influences from Greek Traditional Dance
Summary:
The aim of this study is the creation of a hip hop dance choreography combined with elements of Greek traditional dance. More specifically, an attempt is made to compose a hip hop dance choreography encompassing kinetic motifs of Greek traditional dance through which modification can be amalgamated with the aggressive and dynamic movements of hip hop dance. The choreography of this study was structured on the basis of the principles governing the two types of dance, while the morphological method of dance analysis was used for the creation, the presentation and the analysis of the choreographic synthesis. As a result of this attempt, a choreography of 38 kinetic motifs emerged inspired both by hip hop dance and by Greek traditional dance. The process towards the creation of this choreography, as well as its recording and analysis through specific scientific tools, demonstrated that the above kinds of dance can be combined and give a harmonious result. Furthermore, the procedure proved that the mixing of hip hop and Greek traditional dance is a particularly creative process and can lead to new perspectives about the use and teaching of these two kinds of dance.
