The Peace Treaty of Lausanne (July 24, 1923) and the Religious Minorities in Turkey
Summary:
The present Postgraduate Thesis in the Department of Social Theology of the
Theological School of U.O.A. examines the Peace Treaty of Lausanne signed in
1923 between Greece and Turkey and its impact on the religious minorities (Rum
Othodox Christians, Armenians, Kurds, etc.) that existed in Turkey (Μinor Asia)
at that time. The effects on the general social and religious life of the Rum (Greek)
community of Constantinople (Istanbul) but also of those of the islands of
Imbros and Tenedos (such as the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Vakifs, etc.) are
emphasized. Also, all the violations of the terms - articles of the Treaty by
Turkey from then until today are mentioned in detail, while the current disputes
of the neighboring country that lead it to seek its revision are also mentioned
