Gallblader cancer treatment literature review
Summary:
Gallbladder cancer is a rare malignancy that is quite common in extrahepatic bile duct tumors. It occurs with special distribution and frequency in some nation as it is related to several predisposing factors, specially correlated with gallstones presents. Several studies have been done in an attempt to analyze the pathology of the disease. The most common gallbladder cancer type is adenocarcinoma. It is often an incidental finding and especially after operations or during them.
The early clinical diagnosis is difficult, because the first signs that are recognized such as abdominal tenderness or weakness are not specific while the presence of jaundice is an indication of disease in progressive status and with bad prognosis. Very important is, the preoperative staging and to choose the most appropriate surgical approach.
the purpose of this study is a literature review related to the treatment of gallbladder cancer. Through the study and interpretation of these announcements, an attempt is made to better understand the disease as well as the special surgical approach that must be applied for the benefit of the patient.
Based on TNM staging and applying a surgical approach according to the stage of the disease and not with a standard surgery, we’ve got the best surgical treatment of the cancer, avoiding useless surgeries and achieving an increase in the survival time. Patients that have been diagnosed with gallbladder cancer stage T1b and above appear to benefit by a radical excision, while lymph node dissection other than the radical excision provides additional information of the stage of the disease.
The application of modern chemotherapeutic protocols with, Gemcitabine Capecitabine plus Platin, seems to provide a more effective contribution to the treatment of the disease, although there is still much to be done.
