Storytelling as a sharing tool of emotions and long-term effects of women who experienced abortion
Summary:
This dissertation concerns the use of digital storytelling as a tool for externalizing the emotions and possible effects of women with abortion experiences.
The sample of the research consists of seven in total participants from the age of 24 to 53 years, which are divided into two different groups. One group consists of four participants who have experienced the abortion process, with the most recent experience being one year before the volunteer participation in the present study and the oldest relating to the process of a participant fifteen years ago. The second group consists of three women who have not had an abortion and state their views on abortion through the digital storytelling tool.
Regarding the creation of digital narratives due to the special conditions that society is experiencing due to the Covid-19 virus where movement was prohibited due to the generalized lockdown in which the country was located, which resulted in the absence of live communication at least once and with the seven participants. Consequently, the communication was carried out only through telephone and internet (Facebook, viber, email).
The analysis of digital narratives was done through the qualitative method and specifically through the narrative approach that was considered the most appropriate and due to the small number participated in the research but also because of the possibility of comparing different cases, so focused on the content and structure of digital narratives entirely.
Finally, the results that emerged from the above qualitative research and are presented in the sixth chapter, concern the manifestation of the personal experience of each participant as well as the way in which each experienced the experience of abortion. The results also concern the expression of views of women who do not have the experience of this process. The results are presented based on the analysis made through the narrative approach after the completion of the digital narratives in order to highlight the role played by the use of digital narrative and how it helped women to express their experience on such a critical social issue.
