Assessment of pharmacotherapy adherence of patients receiving acenocoumarol and NOACs
Summary:
Introduction: the adherence of patients to the anticoagulation treatment is extremely important as any misunderstanding may lead to severe complications such as thrombosis or bleeding. The aim of our study was to assess patients’ adherence to anticoagulation treatment with acenocoumarol or novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs), as well as the investigation of potential factors that affect the level of patients’ compliance to treatment.
Methods: a questionnaire was used for the assessment of patients’ adherence to anticoagulation treatment in 83 patients. The investigation took place between June to October 2020.
Results: patients’ adherence to anticoagulation treatment with acenocoumarol or NOACs seems to be related to patient’s age, educational level, private medical services, and mostly to patients’ quality of life and therapeutic relationship.
Discussion: patients’ adherence to anticoagulation treatment with acenocoumarol or NOACs is of paramount clinical significance. Therefore, healthcare providers ought to educate patients and permit communication for a better understanding, and a better level of compliance to treatment
