The application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the management of forest fires -The case of the Municipality of Rafina-Pikermi
Summary:
The purpose of the dissertation is to examine the application of the capabilities of geographic
information systems in rational management, forest fire management combined with spatial
optimization, spatio-temporal analysis of events and geospatial analysis and in endangered values
Considering that the municipality of Rafina is now affected by fire and faces a high risk to the
environment and endangered values, we intend to study the case and the modern treatment with
technology and remote sensing.
we aim at the case study and the modern leverage technology and remote sensing.
A key priority of the work is the implementation of management studies and action plans in the
catastrophic event of forest fires to immediately address their spread.
Today, in the light of climate change, their application to risk management is the most modern
redesign in reducing vulnerability, risk, contributes to risk forecasting, threat assessment, the
likelihood of occurrence of the phenomenon and the improvement of the overall action plan.
The unified treatment and information base with their use and application sets in all stages,
prevention, suppression and in the post-fire stage the guarantees of the effective strategic risk
management planning.

The main points of the methodology of the work that we will mention are the following:
(a) The study area will be described, fire problem categorization, causes, spread, factors and effects
will be recorded.
(b) Methods of application of geographic information systems in management and management at
all stages and data collection will be analyzed by creating a database of the area.
(c) Cartographic illustrations will be issued that will include the fire planning of the area and the
general action plan.
(d) The most common operational forest fire management systems will be reported
The results of the research will be extracted, the discussion and reflection will be recorded, and the
conclusions will be made, and useful suggestions will be made for further research.
