Summary:
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a close, autonomous medical ward, which is called to confront a range of diseases, which belongs to a different pathology, with severe sufferers. It is composed of specialized staff and proper equipment in order to observe, care and cure these patients. Because of the special environment, it is required specialization, expertise and undoubtedly indissoluble cooperation of the multi-disciplinary team’s members. The aim is the quick restoration, the reduction of the complications and the time spent in hospitals for the patients.
The physiotherapist is a member of this multi-disciplinary team and the physiotherapy is an integral part of these patients’ treatment.
The purpose of this study is the outcome of conclusions concerning the role of physiotherapy in ICU, the physical therapist’s position in the health team and his collaboration with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
