Aromatase inhibitors and blood sugar metabolism
Summary:
In this study, it is used the cell line INS-1 which comes from insulinom of beta pancreatic cells from mice. The target of this study was the understanding of the interaction between the levels of estrogen and the secretion of insulin in cellularevel and the risk of developing of Diabetes as well. The cell line INS-1 was exposed in increasing concentrations of estrogen and during that was isolated and counted the amount of RNA and the protein insulin as well. The results showed that the secretion of insulin in gene and protein level increases with dose depending way after stimulation of the beta pancreatic cells with estrogen, the secretion of gene insulin was increased proportional with the estrogen concentration and this secretion reached a plateau as a result of the saturation of the estrogen receptors. These results can be useful to estimate the risk of developing of Diabetes by women with breast cancer who receive an antihormonal therapy with aromatase inhiobitors.
