Oral manifestations of autoimmune/inflammatory diseases internet site
Summary:
Epidemiological studies show that autoimmune/inflammatory diseases affect approximately 3-5% of the general population.
The oral cavity is one of the common sites of infection and manifestations of these diseases. In fact, oral lesions often occur in the early stages of the disease, which enhances the dentist’s contribution to the early detection of the disease and its interdisciplinary medical management.
The purpose of this dissertation is to create a website that is primarily aimed at doctors and dentists who want to be informed and familiar with these diseases, with the ultimate goal to help them in early diagnosis, proper treatment and guidance of the patient.
In the first chapter, a brief reference is made to the general principles of immune tolerance and the mechanisms of autoimmunity/inflammation that help in approaching the pathophysiology of diseases. Some general features of autoimmune diseases are also listed.
Next, the etiology, the clinical and histopathological picture, diagnosis and treatment of 15 relevant diseases are described. For a better understanding of the content, an appendix of color clinical and histopathological images and a vocabulary for the interpretation of basic terms are provided.
A separate chapter analyzes corticosteroid drugs, as they are the main category of drugs used in the treatment of oral diseases, both systemic and local.
A separate chapter describes Internet services and in particular applications of information and communication technology in the field of health, which contribute to the upgrading of the provided health services in order to improve the quality of life of the people.
Seeking health information on the internet, raises important concerns regarding reliability and quality of information. For this reason, we cite codes of ethics and conduct that concern both information providers and consumers, as well as the criteria for evaluating the quality of health information on the internet.
The work is completed with the presentation of the website created for the purposes of the dissertation. The website was developed by using the JOOMLA! Content Management System (CMS). HTML and JOOMLA! are also described.
