Summary:
School bullying is a phenomenon that has been on the rise in recent years, despite organized efforts to tackle it within and outside the school. The aim of this work is to present the fundamental characteristics of school bullying and especially the attitudes adopted by teachers in their efforts for prevention and effective intervention. Through the study of the attitudes, perceptions and reactions of teachers towards bullying or aggressive incidents, an attempt is made to outline the importance of their role in dealing with the phenomenon. The intention is to highlight the difficulties and problems that hinder their action, which lead to the increasing involvement of students of all ages in bullying incidents, in order that efforts can be made to adopt more holistic practices, but also to improve existing intervention programs. The first chapter of this paper attempts a conceptual approach to school bullying and presents research data on the place and frequency of occurrence of the phenomenon. The second chapter deals with the forms of school bullying, the causes that lead to its manifestation, as well as the consequences that it brings both in the short and long term to the parties involved. In the third chapter, a conceptual approach to the concepts of prevention and intervention is made and also, practices and ways to deal with school bullying are presented alongside with research conclusions on the role of teachers in dealing with the phenomenon. In the fourth and last chapter, reference is made to prevention and intervention programs of school bullying in Greece and abroad, as well as to the views of teachers regarding the implementation of programs for the intervention of bullying incidents.
