Summary:
This paper examines the lyrical work of Pietro Mascagni: "Pinotta". Although it was published in 1932, this small opera has its roots in the composers student life, being a product of review of "In Filanda", a cantata he wrote in his youth. Central points of this study are the examination of historical features parallel to the composer's composition stages, the analytical approach of musical and poetic material and finally the tracing of all changes, from the first cantata (1881), to the first -unpublished- opera (1883) and finally the definitive version (1932).
