Summary:
Vitamin D is a fat soluble hormone, with established functions in bone metabolism and calcium-phosphorus homeostasis. Recently, growing scientific interest turned to the effect of vitamin D on different physiological functions and diseases. Specifically, vitamin D has widely proven efficacy on immune system and autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We will describe the association between vitamin D status and disease activity in RA.
