Summary:
This postgraduate thesis deals with the history and contribution of the holy monasteries of the metropolis of Kalavryta and Aegialia in Achaia, Peloponnese. Using archival material, primary sources as well as exhaustive Greek and foreign bibliography, the author-researcher captures in absolute chronological order the events of the varied life of the specific monasteries over time. Patriarchal sigils, Byzantine imperial chrysovulas, Venetian accounts, Ottoman firmans, page comments of monks as readers and copyists, reports of fighters of the 1821 national uprising, modern legislation of the Greek state make up the puzzle of the history and contribution (social, educational, cultural, economic ) of the monasteries under investigation to the local communities, the Orthodox Church, the Greek Nation.
