Summary:
Ιn the following pages we will discuss the representation of migrant characters in Greek sitcoms.
We will examine the role of sitcoms in reinforcing ideologies and transmitting messages that shape the image of characters. Also, we will go through the main points of representation of minority groups in American television, where we will discuss the differences between races and their representation in popular American sitcoms. In the following chapters, we will examine the role of media in shaping the image of “other” and how framing can influence the organization and understanding of information regarding “others”. We will also go through the basic characteristics of immigrant representation in print media in Greece, which suddenly welcomed a
big number of refugees. Lastly, we will examine how popular Greek sitcoms represent migrant
characters, how they construct them, and how this construction differs based on the socio-cultural
contexts existing.
