Tango and Space : performative practices
Summary:
In this paper I focus on the dance practice and performance of Tango, investigating through the practice of human movement the importance of space. On the one hand space as a" place " physical, material and located and on the other as imaginary, intangible, moving and transforming. I also study the role of Tango in shaping transnational cultural networks and communities as well as the diverse meanings given by the same dancers to tango through narratives describing the dance experience. For this purpose, I chose ethnographic material that shows samples from the world scene of Tango and different cities and countries such as Argentina (Buenos Aires), U.S.A. (Philadelphia), England (East Midlands), Greece (Athens) and Germany.
