Summary:
The following research is based in the discourse analysis methodology, while using various references which are related to Ethnomusicology, Cultural Anthropology, Philosophy, Sociology, History and Psycology in order to abstract meanings of intersubjective value, in regard to the connection between music and the sacred. The bibliographical foundation of this essay is about three different cultures scoped by three different aspects. In particular, the three cultures which are mentioned and analized in this text are the Aboriginal Australians, the Tumbuka of northen Malawi and the Sufi of north India and Pakistan. Fundamental issuses that are discussed in this study are: How are music and the sacred connected, how the people of each culture conceive and interpret the sacred in their lifes and community and what is the role of music in the spiritual context, what are the meanings of the performance-ritual and how is the sacred experienced musically.
