Summary:
In recent years, the need to obtain measurable and quantitative information of an object or a phenomenon, without physical contact with it, has become increasingly necessary. In this context comes remote sensing and its techniques, where through data collection and processing, important information and results related to both the natural environment and human activities in it can be extracted.
This thesis focuses on the study of the change in the water level of lake Yliki and lake Paralimni after using Planet satellite imagery and interpreting where these changes come from.
First, a chapter is provided, in which an introductory review of remote sensing, a historical
background is given, followed by a detailed discussion of remote sensing satellites and sensors.
We, then, analyze the Planet satellite images in more detail, as they are the ones received and processed in GIS in this specific thesis.
In the second chapter, we review the historical and geological data for lake Yliki and lake
Paralimni. The third chapter is followed by the methodology part, in which the purpose, the available data and the working method are recorded. Then, in chapter four, we have the results and the interpretation of the diagrams.
Finally, in the fifth chapter, we present the main conclusions drawn for this study.
