Summary:
The present master’s thesis is based on the content of the outgoing correspondence that the Panagis Tsitselis merchant house had been sending during the years 1786-1804 and 1814-1816. At first, there is a presentation of the historical period during which the merchant house was executing orders as well as of the difficulties that were met by the company due to the particular historical conditions. Furthermore, there is an examination of how a trading house was able to make good use of the commercial networks and the family/business relations at the Eastern Mediterranean due to which there was a possibility of creating a link between the small and local trade and the international trade. Finally, the individual issues that were found in the copia lettere are described and analyzed, including the types of products, the areas of imports and exports, the weights and the measures, the vessels, the transactions and some of the trade risks.
