Analysis of the Bebop Jazz Guitar Language through Jazz Database
Summary:
Improvisation in jazz music usually involves the spontaneous creation or reorganization of existing melodic lines supported by specific chord sequences. This particular form of composition that takes place in real time, especially in the idiom of Bebop, presupposes an in-depth knowledge of improvisational language at both melodic and rhythmic level. This paper presents an understanding of the building blocks of Bebop's syntactic language as filtered through the instrument of Guitar. This will be done by analyzing the improvisations of influential artists of the Bebop style, through a new developing database.
