Burnout, Job Satisfaction and Emotional Intelligence among Teachers in Greece
Summary:
The teaching profession nowadays is multidimensional, as they undertake in addition to teaching and other issues related to the curriculum, the student community, parents, the wider school environment, as well as various other educational initiatives. All of the above have as a consequence the professional exhaustion of the teaching staff. On the other hand, of course, there is professional satisfaction, which is quite important for teachers, as it particularly affects several functions of their daily lives. In recent years, several studies have been carried out, mainly abroad, aimed at analyzing and identifying the complex phenomenon of burnout. In our country more specifically, there are many researches that have taken place in the field of education, which in fact try to measure the level of burnout and satisfaction, but also the mental qualities of teachers. The purpose of this dissertation is therefore to make an extensive report on the phenomenon of professional exhaustion, but also the increased professional stress that teachers experience almost daily, which results in the appearance of several dysfunctions in them. However, in the context of this work, we will refer in detail to the phenomenon of professional satisfaction of teachers, both from their work environment and the conditions prevailing in it, but also from the students themselves. Finally, this paper will describe the issue of teachers' emotional intelligence, but also how it relates to their professional exhaustion, their job satisfaction, their stress, but also their effectiveness in treating the classroom and students.
