Industrial networks and family strategies in Piraeus Πρώτος υπότιτλος the case of Dilaveris family (1850-1932)
Summary:
This thesis studies the course of Efstathios Dilaveris from the island of Kithira, who emigrates with his family to Piraeus in the 1870’s. Firstly it probes his occupation in construction, his crossing over to trading and onto industry with the establishment of a building material warehouse, the establishment of a mosaic plaque factory later on, winding up to the creation of the first and most significant factory producing French tiles and stencil tiles in the area of Lefka in Piraeus. This thesis also studies the world of ceramics in the region of Kaminia in Piraeus during the period that E. Dilaveris does business and the consequences from the establishment of his business. Simultaneously, it tries to decode his behaviour towards both his profession and his family as well as the strategies he adopts to succeed.
