Eatings Disorders in athletes and pre-athletes of canoe kayak
Summary:
Eating Disorders (EΔ) usually come as a result of excessive preoccupation with body weight, and are presented in the form of insufficient, inappropriate, irregular or excessive food intake (Lazaratou & Anagnostopoulos, 2003). Eating disorders such as psychogenic anorexia and bulimia are characterized by unstable diet and abnormal weight control in order to achieve the "ideal" appearance. Specifically, bulimia is characterized by episodic overeating, ie the consumption of a very large amount of food in a short period of time. Psychogenic anorexia is an eating disorder characterized mainly by a refusal to maintain a healthy, normal weight and is almost always accompanied by a distorted image of the individual about himself. Social prejudices and the globally formed image of the "ideal" body advocate the wrong treatment of diet and the body.
The purpose of this study is to detect the tendency of eating disorders, active athletes and former canoe kayak athletes. The survey was conducted on 14 athletes and 12 former canoe kayakers aged 16-25. Body mass index (BMI) was calculated and two questionnaires on eating disorders (EAT-13, BULIMIC) were given to active and former canoe kayak athletes. The results of the two teams, always based on the physical characteristics of the individuals and their answers, showed that there is no statistical difference in BMI, there is simply a tendency to bulimia in former athletes. Finally, in a larger sample it is very likely that other results will be found.
