Description of geomaterials, from the Greek mineral industry, as materials used in the final restoration coating layers of a sanitary landfill.
Summary:
This thesis aims to optimize the final coating method of a Sanitary Landfill Site by proposing some geomaterials - minerals from the Greek mineral industry. The application of these minerals to the layers of the final coating of the landfill basin, aims at the optimal restoration of the site, with the ultimate goal of landfill restoration and finally, reintegrating the landfill basin into the natural environment.

At first, the issue with the waste management process is described and includes the clarification of basic concepts and principles of a landfill site. Afterward, the daily operation of a landfill is described with the processes that take place daily, such as the overlay process. Then, the importance of rehabilitation and aftercare of a sanitary landfill basin is emphasized. Furthermore, after a reference to the materials that find application, some minerals are proposed.

The materials that are recommended for use, because of their properties, either mechanical or chemical, can cope perfectly with the final coating processes of the landfill. They act as ideal soil conditioners for the development of new soils and the subsequent growth of flora and fauna in the area.
