Summary:
The development of a National Strategy for Forest Policy is of utmost importance for every country to be able to cope with and effectively address the modern environmental challenges that arise. In November 2018, the Government Gazette of the Ministerial Decision was issued defining the "Strategic Development Plan for Forestry 2018-2038 (National Strategy for Forests)". This Plan aims to define the principles and directions of forest policy over a twenty-year horizon. The vision of this Strategy aims to ensure sustainability and strengthen the economy by increasing the contribution of forest ecosystems to it, through multifunctionality, adaptability and enhancing their socio-economic role, always taking into account contemporary environmental challenges such as the climate crisis, which threatens to disrupt the functioning of the mosaic of ecosystems of great ecological value and rich biodiversity that Greece possesses The aim of this paper is to assess the "Forestry Development Strategy Plan 2018-2038", to highlight the objectives of this Strategy and the ways in which they can be achieved. Finally, the case study of the implementation of this Plan in areas of ecological value of Karditsa Prefecture such as the public forest complex of Agrafa will be presented, specifying the actions that can be used to achieve the desired objectives.
