Summary:
The naturalistic principles elaborated by Emile Zola (1840-1902) in 1880 in France acquire a great resonance in the Argentine literary environment. This new literary current exercise its influence on eminent writers in Rio de la Plata such as Eugenio Cambaceres (1843-1888), who is its greatest representative in Latin America. In his work Cambaceres assimilates and adapts the norms of French Naturalism to the characteristics and needs of his country. In his novel Sin rumbo published in 1885, it is reflected the harsh environment of Argentine society at the end of 19th century according to the experimental method and the naturalistic principles. In this study, through a descriptive an analytical approach is studied the Argentine social environment with the aim of presenting the corrupt bourgeoisie in the city through the personality of the protagonist Andrés), the poor peasants and the social women. In a suffocating social environment, Andrés, frees himself through suicide, a destiny recommended by the norms of Naturalism.
