Summary:
Introduction: Greece, at the beginning of its national defense policy, among other principles, states that it seeks to prevent the acquisition and use of weapons of mass destruction and supports international efforts to limit their spread. CBD emergencies arise as a result of occupational exposure, fire, explosion, toxic release and war and are caused by either ignorance, negligence, incompetence, accident or malicious intent.
Purpose: the brief presentation of the weapons of mass destruction systems and the dangers that develop with the possibility of their use in the present era. Also, the conceptual content of the National Defense Strategy is presented, as well as the threats that lurk.
Methodology: searching for scientific Greek and English articles in GoogleScholar, indexing them and recording the necessary information related to the topic and answering the research hypotheses of the present work. The articles that will be searched will be from the last decade.
Results: Greece, in order to prevent threats to its security, relies on internal (strong Armed Forces) and external balance (participation in all Western European security and political organizations and signing and observance of almost all multilateral arms control agreements and international control In general, in Greece, as in other Balkan countries, in the period following the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, no chemical weapons were leaked to criminal organizations.
Conclusion: In the 21st century, all countries have an obligation to ensure their international and regional security, so that they are as prepared as possible in the face of asymmetric threats. In the future, there is a possibility that nuclear weapons will play a greater role in the international security community and reduce the restriction of their use and proliferation, but also the emergence of other weapons of mass destruction, in addition to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear.
