Design and Analysis of Steel Tubular Spatial Frame for a Formula Student Racing Vehicle - Formula SAE
Summary:
In the current Thesis, the aim is to design and analyze a steel tubular spatial frame for a Formula Student - Formula SAE race vehicle. The material of the frame is AISI 4130 steel (chromium-molybdenum, low alloy steel). The basic cross-sections of the frame are circular (tube sections). The chassis strength study was based on typical static operating loads of racing vehicles. The final purpose is to optimize the geometry and cross sections of the given frame, so as to minimize the weight and maximize performance, for the given dimensions and operating specifications. Finally the frame is compared to using 5454 – H32 aluminum alloy material.
