Summary:
In the last years there have been many attempts to develop applications that can offer a
wealth of information in easily understandable user interfaces, without the demand for
knowledge of querying databases. This wealth of information is well acquired with the
use of Linked Data.
The term Linked Data refers to a set of best practices for publishing and interlinking
structured data on the Web. With Linked Data, a very pragmatic approach towards
reaching Web’s full potential, thus the Web to become a place where data can be
shared, processed, and understood by automated tools as well as by people. One such
example is DBpedia. DBpedia is a collective effort to export structured data from
Wikipedia and their availability on the Internet. DBpedia allows to perform complex
searches on Wikipedia datasets as well as linking them to data from other sources in
Internet.
This thesis presents an application for android devices, aimed at familiarizing the
average user to generate successful searches and extract desired data without pre existing knowledge in semantic technologies. The software provides a graphical
interface in which a user can browse DBpedia data, create filters and export data,
without knowing any specialized technology. The system translates the user options
in SPARQL queries automatically and returns the final results.
