The psychological effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on the quality of work life of mental health professionals in Greece
Summary:
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of mental healthcare workers and their professional quality of life. This quantitative cross-sectional study aims at exploring the effect of fear COVID-19 to the professional quality of life of mental healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece. A sample of 224 participants completed an online voluntary and anonymous survey between April and June 2021. It contained a sociodemographic section, the Professional Quality of Life questionnaire V and the Fear of COVID-19 scale. Results show that mental healthcare professionals who experience extreme fear of COVID-19 show moderate levels of burnout and secondary trauma. The multiple linear regression analyses reveal that age, gender and extreme fear of COVID-19 are possible predictors of professional quality of life. This study contributes to the understanding of these variables among mental healthcare professionals in Greece and these results should be considered when planning policies and prevention intervention efforts to promote professionals’ wellbeing.
