Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on patients suffering from mental disorders. Mental health professionals’ attitudes and perceptions on government measures for prevention and intervention

On 30 January 2020, the World Health Organisation declared that the Covid19 outbreak is a state of emergency of global concern, which threatens public health. The virus quickly had a direct impact not only on millions of people’s physical health but in addition it has become a large-scale threat to mental health globally. This review aims to compile data on the direct psychological effects of the pandemic on the general population, public health workers and clinical cases. However, experts point out the need to also pay special attention to other groups who are at risk of other psychological, social or physical problems and may need better tailored therapeutic interventions. In order to better tackle the urgent psychological problems of the people involved in the CoViD-19 pandemic, a new psychological intervention model is required. Minimizing face-to-face interaction has led to the creation of online mental health services, which have been widely adopted in China as well as other countries.
