Original Title:
Δερματοσκοπικά ευρήματα ανάλογα με το πάχος κατά Breslow.Πως η δερματοσκόπηση μπορεί να προβλέψει προεγχειρητικά το πάχος του μελανώματος.
Translated title:
Dermoscopic findings relative to Breslow thickness. How can dermoscopy assess the melanoma thickness preoperatively.
Summary:
Background: Dermoscopy is a non-invasive, in vivo technique that enhances the diagnostic accuracy and can provide useful information regarding the lesion. Breslow index, which measures the lesion thickness in millimeters after the surgical excision, constitutes the most significant prognostic factor of cutaneous melanoma.
Objective: To review the articles that refer to the correlation between the presence of specific dermatoscopic structures and the Breslow thickness of melanoma.
Data sources: Selected literature
Results: Epiluminescence microscopy features such as atypical network, regression, streaks, pseudopods etc seem to appear more frequently in in situ and thin melanomas. On the contrary, shiny white structures and atypical vascular patterns can possibly represent thicker lesions. Nevertheless, many dermatoscopic structures are still a controversial issue between papers, a fact that indicates the need for further research.
Conclusion: The preoperative clues that derive from dermatoscopy can prove to be an advantageous aid, that leads to a personalized approach and therapy of each patient.
