Investigation of the satisfaction and quality of life of patients of private and public dental offices
Summary:
Dental health and oral hygiene, in general, is a contemporary health care issue for all countries. It has been observed in various countries, as in Greece, that there is an unequal distribution of oral hygiene care in the various social strata. It has also become apparent that there is unequal access to oral health care, with the poorer strata experiencing this inequality more acutely. With this in mind, this thesis aims to investigate patient satisfaction levels and quality of life in dental care by comparing public and private dental care provisions. Furthermore, as seen above, many patients cannot meet their dental needs; this research investigates the unmet dental needs of both private and public sector patients. A quantitative approach with a questionnaire survey was carried out to collect the data to fulfill this objective. In total, 383 questionnaires were collected, of which 185 were from private sector patients and 198 were from patients from the sailor's home. The survey's main findings showed that the participants from the seafaring home showed greater satisfaction with the provision of dental care and a better quality of life-based on oral hygiene. Also, specific unmet dental needs were found, such as insufficient coverage by insurance agencies, bureaucracy an obstacle, and a reduced range of dental services. Finally, the study's findings showed that cost was a significant factor in the non-use of private dental offices.
