The evolutionary course of servant's types from Machiavelli's Mandragola to Marco Antonio Foskolo's Fortunato
Summary:
Servants in theatrical plays had a constant and ongoing presence in comic plays since the inception of the genre, and throughout the Classical Greek and Roman antiquity, right until the end of the Italian and Cretan renaissance. The aim of the current assignment is to explore the evolutionary course of the role of the servants by focusing on two comedies from the Renaissance, which are separated from each other both in terms of geography and time; the literal Italian play Mandragola (1518) by Niccolo Machiavelli and the Cretan play Fortunato (1655) by Markandonios Foskolos.
