Summary:
Introduction: The increase in the aging population is a problem of global scope. Likewise, the abuse of the elderly, which has been on the rise in recent years. The term abuse includes many definitions and types that make the study of the subject particularly complicated.
Aim: The aim of this paper was to study a wide range of elder abuse issues in order to enable future research with more specific research questions.
Methology: A scoping review was performed on studies published from 2010 onwards in the following databases: Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane and the Greek Electronic Gerontological and Geriatric Library.
Results- Conclusions: The results of this paper show that elder abuse in the community is a multifactorial issue. There are various definitions and formulas for this topic. A fact that seems to cause confusion in the opinions of the elderly about abuse. In addition, significant prevention interventions have been developed as risk factors continue to increase. The interdisciplinary team that strives for the proper management of incidents of ill-treatment also plays an important role. Although there is a need for further training and education.
