Summary:
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the interface of the Minoan and Mycenaean world, to the extent that it can be traced through aromatic oils and aromatic ointments. Taking into account the existence of palatial perfumery indicated by the Knossian tablets of Linear B during the LM III era in Crete, on the one hand, emphasis is placed on the detection of possible perfumery workshops on the island in the periods preceding this era, in order to investigate the social, symbolic and economic parameters of any possible minoan perfumery. On the other hand, an attempt is being made to search for possible perfume containers and minoan aromatic products during the early Mycenaean era on the mainland, as a possible parameter for the expression of changing patterns during the period preceding the heyday of the Mycenaean palatial societies, the time when perfumery seems to have become an important priority in the Mycenaean palatial industry. Through the effort to detect aromatic products in the mainland Grecce during the early Mycenaean period, the investigation of some aspects of the contact of the societies of Crete and the Peloponnese is attempted, as well as the investigation of appropriation or adoption of Minoan or Minoanizing material culture, as well as the extent to which aromatic products may be associated with complex political, social or cultural processes.
