Summary:
In the digital age, new ways of personal data processing have arisen due to the new technological tools, making it possible to generate economic value from them. Having as an example article 3 par. 1 and preamble No. 24 of Directive 2019/770, the purpose of this thesis is to examine the concept of personal data as the currency of the digital age and the arising legal issues. The examination is mainly focused on the economic value of personal data, the analysis of article 3 par.1 and preamble no. 24 of Directive 2019/770, as well as the relevant case law of national and European Courts and the decisions of DPAs. Moreover, this thesis focuses on the effects of the perception of personal data as currency and the relevant challenges regarding the regulation of this issue.
