Summary:
The body image is a concept with different dimensions. Basically, it’s the feelings, the perceptions and the thoughts that each person has for themselves. The purpose of the following project is to study the body image of adolescent rhythmic gymnastics female athletes, as well as the relationship between their appearance, resentment for their image and the athlete’s bond with their mothers. The research consisted of 29 female athletes of the rhythmic gymnastics’ National Greek Team, who completed questionnaires about Body Image of dancers of classical and modern dance, and parental bond. The most significant findings of the above results’ analysis, showed that body image doesn’t notably relate to the relationship with the mother. The Body Mass Index (BMI) seems to relate to the age of the athletes. However, their satisfaction with their own physical structure, shows to be related negatively with the time period of them being athletes, and with the body image index as well. Evidently, even though it’s the parents that are supposed to have the biggest influence on their children when it comes to high level athletes, it is very common for the coach and other different factors to play an informative role to the athletes’ lives.
